Visiting Graduate Student Information

Correspond with Academic Staff
All visiting graduate students must have a faculty member (Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor) agree to supervise their activity during the visit.  Visiting Graduate Students are encouraged to correspond with academic staff who may be suitable as a potential Graduate Research Supervisor. When corresponding with faculty members please include a detailed CV with education and work experience, volunteer experience and list of publications and presentations, PLUS a statement indicating your research being conducted in your current program and your research interests during your visit. Please review the faculty member's home page before contacting that faculty member. A recommendation for admission will only be made once a faculty member in AFNS has reviewed the prospective visiting graduate student's information and agreed to supervise that student in their graduate program.

Application Procedure
At least 3 months prior to the start of your visit please use contact the Graduate Admission Assistant for a paper application. You will be required to submit the paper application plus approval letter for your visit from your home university and letter of invitation from the AFNS Faculty member. PLEAS CHECK OFF VISITNG GRADUATE STUDENT IN PART 3. Visting Graduate Students will not be required to pay the $100 application fee if submitting the paper application. Alternatively, visting graduate students can submit the web application and pay the $100 application fee. Visiting graduate students must register into RSCH 900 and pay minimal tuition fees for each term they are a Visiting Graduate student at the University of Alberta. Admission dates are May 1, July 1, September 1 or January 1.
