Master of Science Thesis-based
A two year thesis-based program for students wishing to specialize and develop skills in research and scientific communication. It prepares students either for further advanced training or for middle management positions in government or industry. Students are required to complete 3 graduate level courses as recommended by the Supervisor and the Supervisory Comittee, 8 hours of AFNS Academic Integrity and Ethics Training, complete AFNS 601 Seminar requirement (presentation of 1 seminar and 75%+ attendance), research, write and defend a thesis, plus present a thesis seminar as part of the final oral examination. Courses are dependent on the student's background. Students must maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 to continue in the program and normally register full-time for the duration of their graduate program at the University of Alberta. Funding may be available from the supervising faculty member.
